Drawing inspiration from Post Impressionist artists like Cezanne, Murray explores classical genres of painting with a modern handling. His still lifes, portraits, landscape and narrative pieces are developed with dynamic strokes and rich impasto. Murray paints his subjects in passages of color establishing a refractive, kaledescopic beauty.

He began his formal artistic training at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia. He continued to paint internationally at the John Michael Angel Studio in Florence, Italy and the Repin Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Murray worked for a brief time for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing as part of a collaborative team of banknote designers. Murray has also taught drawing, painting and sculpture at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC.

Murray has exhibited in many venues including the International Art Expo in New York City, the Strathmore Museum in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
