Artist Thomas W. Benton remains a local legend in Aspen, Colorado. He is especially known for the political posters he designed for Hunter S. Thompson's 1970 candidacy for Sheriff of Pitkin County, the county in which Aspen is located. Thompson was the father of gonzo journalism, and he wrote the cult classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

While much of Benton's artwork is politically oriented or abstract in nature, he also completed a number of posters - such as the silkscreen print offered here - that advertised and celebrated the ski culture in Aspen. According to our research, this poster is extraordinarily rare and has never been offered at auction.

Sheet rippling; foxing mark at right and very faint toning; very slight stain lower left corner; not examined out of frame.
