The first a very fine tablespoon with mark of John Allen Shaw (active in Newport, Rhode Island), circa 1800, with period monogram "WHG" and bright-cut engraving to modified coffin form handle (9 1/4 in.); a tablespoon with mark of J. W. Root, period monogram "ERS;" a pair of sugar tongs with mark of Garret Schanck (active in New York City), circa 1800, period monogram and engraving (6 in.); a small cream ladle with mark of "WH" in a rectangular punch, no monogram (6 3/4 in.); and a sugar shell with retail mark of J. Y. Savage, late 19th century.

After substantial financial losses following the War of 1812, John Allen Shaw moved to Tyrrell County, North Carolina and worked in the lumber and mercantile business. He eventually became a Baptist preacher and passed away in Currituck, North Carolina in 1837.

J. Y. Savage is likely that of the son of John Savage of Raleigh.
