Augsburg, second half 18th century, incised "And. Vogl" to verso, with gilt brass shaped hour ring, gnomon, latitude arc, and plumb bomb in frame, all hinged above an engraved square base inset with silvered magnetic compass and blue steel needle behind glass, verso engraved with six cities and their latitudes. The instrument presented in fitted leather and paper case with rare accompanying period printed usage sheet, one side in French and the other in German, signed on both sides.
