A Japanese Red Choba Dansu Chest

Meiji period (1868-1912), this merchant's chest was made of kiri wood and painted red, accented with heavy hand-forged iron hardware, the chest is divided up into the top section with a single drawer spanning the width of the chest, in the middle section, two panel hinged doors with distinctive iron strapping, concealing two shelves, and to the right three equally sized drawers, the bottom section of the chest has two stacked drawers with a hinged door to the right concealing two interior drawers, rectangular handles to the side for carrying.
