This scarce quarter eagle, with a mintage of 112,234, represents the first year of a very short-lived type. In 1840 the familiar Liberty Head quarter eagle replaced the ephemeral Classic Head $2.50. For the record, this problem-free example is the earliest coin found in our Memphis accumulation.
