Circa 1840, includes twelve woodblock prints from a series of the famous Japanese historical narrative Chushingura or the Loyal Retainers, based on the story of the forty-seven ronin and their mission to avenge the death of their master, Asano Naganori, now mounted together as an accordion style album with hard covers at the ends, prints are laid down to accordion backing.

Album size 9 3/4 x 14 in.

Some parts of accordion binding have come apart and pages separated; rubbing and wear with areas of loss to all prints; fading to color; some with wormholes; all prints laid down to a paper accordion backing.
