Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Stacy, North Carolina, circa 1940, carved and painted wood, glass eyes.

Length 16.5 in

From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina

Purchased from the family of Julian Hamilton, Jr. on September 17, 2007.

These mallard decoys were made as a gift for Julian Hamilton, Sr. in the early 1940s. Julian was the principal of the school in Stacy, North Carolina and was a pioneer decoy collector. They were never rigged but stayed on Julian's mantel for over fifty years. Eldon Willis and Elmer Salter made relatively few mallards together but this may be the only mallards made exclusively by Elmer Salter.

Original paint, some craquelure to paint, tight age checks.
