Heinrich Steinweg opened his first piano factory in Germany, 1835. Heinrich immigrated to the U.S. in 1850 and gave the business to one of his sons. The Steinweg piano company partnered with Frederich Grotrian in 1856. While in America, Heinrich would change his name to Henry Steinway, thus creating the Steinway & Sons famed piano company. In the 1960s Steinweg sought to open shop in the U.S., but due to confusion between the two company names, the U.S. Court of Appeals deemed Steinweg unable to conduct sales in the U.S., thus creating a rarity for this piano to be found in the U.S.

Fair condition; top with staining and tight crack to front right corner; central fabric has been removed and discarded from the sound panel; front legs are loose; lower sound panel slightly askew.
