Born in Brooklyn, New York, Vom Hofe was the son of reel maker Freidrich vom Hofe. Edward began building reels as an apprentice to his father in the mid-1860s. As an established tarpon and big game fisherman, his reels established a new rule of perfection with the design of anti-reverse systems and adjustable internal friction tension adjustments. These improvements became the standards for big game fishing and were prized possessions for anglers throughout the world.
All components in working order with minimal dirt and oxidation for the age of reel.
