John Graham (MD, 1822-1912), Canvasback
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Charlestown, Maryland, circa 1860, carved and painted wood, branded S.G.D.

Length 14 in.

John Graham was a cabinet maker, guide, market hunter, the towns undertaker, but he still found time to make some of the most iconic decoys to come from Maryland. This particular canvasback has a large bold body with a wonderful patina. It has been hit with large size shot which adds to its mystique.

Original paint worn to bare wood on the back of the body, hit by shot on the left side, tight and stable crack in the neck, some roughness to top of the head.
