Qing dynasty (1644-1912), late 19th century, deep navy blue ground silk satin, opens to the front with high open seams to the sides, wide sleeves, silk robe is embroidered in metallic thread with eight large longevity symbols within roundels of bats and clouds, ruyi head trim finely embroidered with butterflies flying amidst elegant blue blooms borders the center, back, and side edges, lined in turquoise.

This robe was acquired by Reginald Buchanan Henry in 1912 while he was in Peking as a Navy Captain serving with the United Allied Forces.

Overall good estate condition; some separation and loss to lining along edges; some discoloration to areas of interior lining; some light surface soil to back edge of one sleeve and lower panel at front; some few loose threads; some minor pulls to lower panels; label and writing to interior at neck; some scattered minor wear.
