Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Rodanthe, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood.
Length 19.5 in.
The Neil Midgett brant are the only deoys he is credited with carving. His decoy style is very similar to the brant carved by his neighbor, St Clair Midgett but his paint is much more elaborate. The cross wings on the back of the body was probably inspired by Elmer Crowell. A rig mate is published on page 345 of Gunnin' Birds
by Kroghie Andresen.
Original paint worn to bare wood in places, tight age checks in the body.
