A Thai Bronze Walking Buddha Sculpture
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
19th century, a Buddha bronze sculpture cast in a walking position with long limbs and smooth modeling of his face with a sharp down turned nose and flowing robe, his left hand raised in the abhaya mudra symbolic mudra of peace and protection, his right hand rests at his side, his oval face has a serene expression and his hair is arranged in tight pointed curls with a flame finial at top, set into a square wooden base.

HOA 19 3/4 in., Figure only 16 1/2 in.

From the Collection of Gerard and Joanna Rattelade, Oxford, North Carolina

Overall good estate condition; looks like possible repairs or restoration to lower skirt edge on the left side; otherwise general surface wear with a lovely patina to the body; old nails to base are loose so figure wobbles a bit in the base; the wooden base has wear and loss.
