The Medical Kit belonged to Dr. William Hugh McKinnon (1844-1909) of Red Springs, North Carolina. Dr. McKinnon began his medical training as a young medic in the Civil War, later receiving his medical degree from Bellevue in New York. He practiced medicine in Cumberland and Robeson counties. The medical kit was a gift from his daughter Mary McKinnon, a concert pianist, who purchased it in Edinburgh while abroad on a musical tour.

Some verdigris to metal, scratches to wood, especially on underside, some separation at wood joints, interior brass instrument holder loose; overall good condition considering age and use.
