Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), 18th or 19th century, mineral pigments, ink and gold on silk, large scale painting, inscription to left corner includes a poem and a cartouche identifying the monk in gold ink 道巖堂大師之真, seated holding a staff, his red robe with heaven 天 character in gold on green patches, seated next to a table with books, one open and blank, behind him is a folding screen painted in ink with mountain landscape, laid onto a silk brocade mount, framed under glass.
