Joseph "Jodie" Williams was born and raised in Hyde County. He was a farmer by trade but was known to market hunt in the early 1900s. Neal Conoley wrote in his book, Waterfowl Heritage North Carolina Decoys and Gunning Lore "A three barrel gun was used in Hyde County on the sound near Swan Quarter by Jodie Williams. The three barrels were fixed in wooden slots and mounted on the bow of a boat. Only one barrel could be fired at a time. It was used in conjunction with a fire lighting rig. It is reported that Jodie killed 112 ducks in one night, gunning near Judith Island." This large goose was rigged as a stake up decoy.

Old gunning paint, age checks on back, right side and bottom.
