Knotts Island, North Carolina, circa 1910, carved and painted wood.

Length 13.25 in.

From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina

Former collection of Jim Lewis, Sr.

Around the turn of the century, Walter Beasley made a stand of decoys with alert heads and small paddle tails. These decoys exhibit great form and are highly collectible. Early ruddy duck decoys are extremely rare. They were carved to meet the demand for ruddies from New York City restaurants.

Combination of original and old gunning paint, wear to edge of the tail.
