Porcelain with underglaze blue, octagonal in shape, decorated with insects amidst fauna and foliage, on short unglazed foot, signed to the underside.

1 1/4 x 13 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.

In a News & Observer article, corresponding with a one man show of his work at the Garden Gallery, Ikuta explains: "I am working with sketches every day that use the lines found in your tobacco and cotton plants. I am also fascinated with some of your insect predators which feast on your tobacco and cotton." Ikuta's work is in numerous public and private collections, including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum. A portrait sketch of Ikuta by Andy Warhol was recently acquired by the Ackland Art Musuem at UNC-CH.
