Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Hatteras, North Carolina, circa 1900, carved and painted wood, upright root head.

Length 17.5 in.

The root head brant and geese by John and Wilse Farrow exemplify the decoy construction around the turn of the century in Hatteras Village and Avon. The bodies were made of logs and the heads were made from inverted tree limbs. This example as an upright head which gives it an alert posture. It has wonderful folk art appeal.

Original paint with moderate gunning wear, paint scuffed down to wood on head and body, head is loose but stable, age checks down back and chest.
