Edo period (1615-1868), porcelain with cream and purple aubergine glaze, the shishi guardian lion stands with its mouth open and tongue out, wide bulging eyes, backbone is articulated and its tail is swirled fancifully up to its side, originally one of a pair.

Overall good estate condition; repair to egg and front leg; a break with loss to front left leg; some scattered losses to glaze; felt to underside of feet.
