19th century, each vase with celadon ground and hand painted with blue and white enamels, the tallest with sages reading a handscroll in an outdoor landscape, the second vase with Buddhist and auspicious treasure motifs and roundels with textile designs, both with necks flanked with double foo lion faux handles.

From the collection of Ambassador and Mrs. Leonard Woodcock. They lived in China from 1977 to 1981 and continued to visit frequently until 1996. Ambassador Woodcock negotiated normalization between the United States and China with leader Deng Xiaoping, and was then selected to be the first U.S. Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.

Good estate condition; largest with two minor hairlines to rim; both with star hairlines to underside.
