Four Chinese Silk Embroidery Panels with Buddhas

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 18th or 19th century, each panel with a central image of the Buddha seated on an open lotus blossom, dark orange and red ground, multiple silk and satin borders, all four panels are framed identically under glass in gilt wood frames, shaped metal hangers at top of each, stickers reading Wah Cheong, Artistic Picture Framer, Hong Kong to back of each.

From the collection of Ambassador and Mrs. Leonard Woodcock. They lived in China from 1977 to 1981 and continued to visit frequently until 1996. Ambassador Woodcock negotiated normalization between the United States and China with leader Deng Xiaoping, and was then selected to be the first U.S. Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.

Very good estate condition; some light wear and pulls to silk ground; not examined outside of the frames.
