The term "clobbering" is used to describe export porcelain items that were hand painted in underglaze blue in China and then exported to Europe where they were enhanced with bright polychrome enamels and gilt. These additions applied over the existing blue decoration were not intended as part of the original design, and were added to make an item more desirable to the changing European market.

Both with professionally restored rims, one with a professionally restored lid, the other with repair to body and associated retouching.
