This important anthology includes the work of poets such as Cotton Mather, William Cullen Bryant, Longfellow, and many others. The Catalogue of American Poetry at the end of vol. 3 lists "Tamerlane, and other poems, by a Bostonian. Boston, 1827" (p. 405) which is a reference to Edgar Allen Poe's first published work.

Light scuffing and staining to leather, general rubbing at corners, joints, and head and tail of spine, edgewear, vol. 1 with some loss to leather at head of spine and severe cracking at joint with partial separation of front cover, vols. 2 and 3 very sturdy; foxing and light toning and offsetting to interiors, otherwise clean and unmarked, vol. 2 with corner loss to front free endpaper, vol. 3 front free endpaper loose.
