While impressions of a similar etching by Hassam, Swimmer, Morning--Facing Water (Cortissoz/Clayton 73), have circulated on the art market, our research shows that this is the first time an impression of this particular etching has ever been offered at auction.

The catalogue notes that Hassam created this etching from a nude model posed in his studio, and the background that depicts the Isles of Shoals was added later and was based on imagery from his paintings.

Overall good condition; some mat burn visible at edges of mat; small spot at left; not examined out of frame.
