Such contract cents were actually minted in 1788 and are the first coins known to have been produced under U.S. authority; the obverse depicts a sundial within the legends FUGIO (time flies) and MIND YOUR BUSINESS; the reverse shows a circular chain of thirteen interlocking links representing the United States.
