Gifted from Fred Loring Seely to Evelyn Grove Seely, 1912. Inherited through the Seely Family.

Evelyn Grove Seely was the wife of Fred Loring Seely (American, 1871-1942) and daughter of Edwin Wiley Grove (American, 150-1927). Fred Seely was an American newspaperman, chemist, inventor, and philanthropist who founded the Grove Park Inn and purchased the Biltmore Estate Industries from Edith Vanderbilt in 1917. Evelyn's father was an American business magnate, entrepreneur, and self-made millionaire. He founded the Paris Medicine Company, and later invested in and developed properties in cities in the southern United States. He developed the Grove Park residential area and, the Battery Park Hotel, built The Grove Park Inn with his son-in-law, and began construction of the Grove Arcade before his death.
