The first with mark of Ball, Black & Co. on New York, pattern number 122, further marked "English Sterling," engraved to underside "From his Father / Dec. 12 1868" and "Samuel Colgate" opposite the applied handle, with applied die rolled band of decoration to base and beading to rim (3 1/2 in.) (minor denting to body); the second marked for D. C. Jaccard & Co. of St. Louis, Missouri (1864-1873), further marked "English Sterling" and with pattern number 663, parcel gilt, in the Japonesque style with applied band of die rolled decoration with avian and branch to rim and raised on a domed foot with cutwork fan motif, period monogram (4 3/8 in.) (very good estate condition).
