Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Knotts Island, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, having the original iron anchor weight.
Length 16.25 in.
From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina In an interview in 2000 with Clyde Davis, the last caretaker of the Dudley Island Club, he recalled Linwood Dudley's decoys. In the early 1950s, the club members would help Linwood paint the decoys. They mixed up a wash tub full of blackish gray paint and dipped the decoys that needed repainting into it. If any detail painting was needed it was done later. Many were left in this dark paint application, a preference for some of the club members who wanted a non-glaring decoy stand.
Old gunning paint with light wear.
