Ohno Bakufu was a prominent Japanese painter and printmaker known for his distinctive style that bridged traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern influences. Born in Tokyo, Bakufu initially trained in Western-style painting under Kuroda Seiki before shifting his focus to woodblock prints. His works often are characterized by bold representations of nature using delicate and detailed lines as well as harmonious use of color. Bakufu's artistic career flourished during the early 20th century, and his prints became highly regarded both in Japan and abroad, contributing significantly to the revival and evolution of Japanese printmaking traditions. This print of
Red Snappers on offer by Bakufu shows his high technical skill in rendering his subject while the silver mica ground echoes the great print artists of the past Edo period.
Very good impression and color; tape to reverse along center upper margin; reverse of upper left corner paper from previous mount.
