18th century, ink, colors, and gold on paper, the shah stands in a green field of small delicate flowers, above are orange, white and blue clouds, a golden halo encircles his head, he holds a saber in blue sheath towards the ground, he is accompanied by a young attendant with fly whisk, all set within a blue ground border with gilt floriate, with gold, red, blue and white rules, inscribed in Arabic to rule border at top, presented under glass in a gilt wood frame.

From the estate of Dr. Andreas Nomikos was a teacher, artist, set designer, and professor emeritus of Theater at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was born in Alexandria Egypt in 1917 and studied at the University of Athens and the Slade School of Fine Art, London. In the 1950s he moved to New York, and designed opera sets for the City Center in New York and San Francisco Opera Company and abroad. Later, he taught at the University of Indiana at Bloomington and at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1971 until his retirement.

Some discoloration or staining to sides and lower portion of painting; border has rubbing and with some loss to color and gold; some scattered fading to background blue; not examined outside of the frame.
