Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century, gold ground lacquer box decorated with auspicious motifs symbolizing longevity: pine, bamboo, persimmons, cranes and
minogame long tailed turtles, the interior of the cover and sides are decorated with persimmons and pine, interior box is fitted with an ink stone, plum blossom shaped silver water dropper, and two removable lacquer holders decorated with pine, persimmons, and cranes in like manner, accompanied by original receipt.
2 1/4 x 8 3/4 x 9 1/2 in.
Purchased from Yoshida Curio, Kyoto, Japan in May 1966. Comes together with original receipt.
Very good estate condition; some professional restoration by lacquer artist Sadae Walters in 1997.
