Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Wanchese, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, incised WWB on bottom.
Length 15.75 in.
Wayland was born and raised in Wanchese where he built a life working on the water. His duck decoys are small compared to other carvers from the area but they were very effective on the northern waters of Pamlico Sound. His heads have a forward leaning position which make the decoys appear to be swimming.
Old gunning paint, age check down back with repair, working repair to neck.
