Purchased directly from Percy Carawan on September 15, 1990.

Percy was one of Mattamuskeet's few veteran hunting guides and decoy makers. He is one of North Carolina's most significant decoy makers. He fashioned his heads from black gum roots salvaged from Lake Mattamuskeet. He soaked the roots in water as they were much easier to carve when wet. The body and head of this decoy are made from black gum root. This early mallard is one of two known.

Original paint with gunning wear, wear to tail on the left side, wear to tip of the bill.
