Lot Details & Additional Photographs
By Bertrand Andrieu, early 19th century, presented in a tooled leather binder stamped with patriotic gilt embellishments, and fitted with brass mounts. The medals within are uniface, consisting of cast lead overlaid with a thin bronze coating; the top tray has six smaller medals, 65mm, variously depicting Napoleon and Josephine (two versions), the Battle of Marengo, and Napoleon crossing the Brenner Pass; two somewhat larger medals, 85mm, show the arrival of the King at Paris (1789) and the Siege of the Bastille (1789); the second tray holds two (2) huge medallions, each approximately 14cm, one depicting Napoleon alone and the other with Napoleon and Josephine together. Included with this set is a decidedly royalist wax medallion, also by Andrieu, featuring the profile of King Louis XVIII set in a round wooden frame.
The Estate of the late Dr. William "Bill" Webb Johnston and Mr. Charles "Chuck" Raymond West, Hillsborough, NC Some minor scratches and abrasions on the obverse are present, but they hardly detract from the presentation; overall Very Fine condition; the Louis XVIII medallion is intact, though there is a fracture to its frame.
