Francis Newland Wright was a descendant of Joshua Grainger Wright. The Wright's were a prominent family of Wilmington, North Carolina. Joshua Grainger Wright purchased the historic Burgwin-Wright House in 1799. Joshua served as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1792 to 1809 and later became a judge on the North Carolina Supreme Court until his death in 1811.
