Midgett served at the Kill Devil Hills Coast Guard Station, where he met fellow carver Manie Haywood. Together, they crafted some of the finest canvas-over-wire decoys to emerge from North Carolina. Midgett's decoys are distinguished by their two-piece head construction, often featuring upturned bills and simple paint schemes. His work includes species such as widgeon, canvasback, bluebill, pintail, and swan. Notably, a drake widgeon decoy by Midgett is featured in
