Steve Alan Kaufman was a prolific American artist whose bold, vibrant work helped carry the legacy of Pop Art into the 21st century. Kaufman was born in the Bronx, and began exhibiting in Manhattan galleries in his teens. At the age of 19, he began an apprenticeship with Andy Warhol, assisting with various projects and absorbing the Pop Art philosophy of making art accessible, commercial, and rooted in American culture.

Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, Kaufman developed a distinct visual language, blending celebrity portraiture, iconic Americana, and social justice themes. He is best known for his colorful depictions of legends such as Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, and Elvis Presley. Kaufman's works have been collected by celebrities, corporations, and museums around the world.
