Working primarily from photographs he takes himself, Estes captures the reflective surfaces and intricate details of city life with striking clarity. He began developing this style in New York City in the 1960s after studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Estes’s work has been exhibited internationally since the 1970s and remains a benchmark of contemporary realism.
