Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Lake Mattamuskeet, North Carolina, circa 1930s, carved and painted wood.

Length 27.5 in.

Percy was one of Mattamuskeet's few veteran hunting guides and decoy makers. He is one of North Carolina's most significant decoy makers. He fashioned his heads from black gum roots salvaged from Lake Mattamuskeet. He soaked the roots in water as they were much easier to carve when wet. This is an exception example with tooling marks on the body and a very animated gum root head.

Combination of original and in-use repaint, light gunning wear.
