Private Collection, New York and London Hirata Shigemitsu (1855-1926) was one of the most prominent metal artists of the Meiji and Taisho periods in Japan. His craftsmanship, characterized by intricate repoussé and inlay techniques, earned him recognition as one of the most prominent metal artists of his era. Shigemitsu's works were primarily produced for the Imperial Household, but also featured regularly in international exhibitions.
