Zhong Kui, the legendary "demon queller," is a prominent figure in Chinese art and folklore, often depicted in paintings and New Year's prints. He is traditionally shown as a fierce looking man with a sword, symbolizing his power to banish evil spirits. Zhong Kui's image is often hung in homes to ward off bad luck and ensure a prosperous new year. In the plaque presented here, he is depicted in the rare style as calm and kind accompanied by two young attendants.
