Meiji period (1868-1912) or Taisho period (1912-1926), a black lacquer suzuribako (writing box) hand painted in gold with wistera in the shape of a Japanese mirror box, inside the box is a tray with a water dropper to the left side and an inkstone to the right, presented together with two brushes and an ink block.

2 3/4 x 8 3/4 x 4 5/8 in.

Some small losses to edges of box where they fit together; some light scratches; some wear to sides of inkstone; some rubbing with loss to gilt on edges.
