A Chinese Export Porcelain Blue and White Octagonal Bowl

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century, after an earlier armorial porcelain set, hand painted in underglaze blue with a shield featuring a lion striding on its back legs, the helmet above bears elaborate plumes, and the crest is a lion standing on all fours on a coronet, the cavetto of the bowl is painted with Chinese antiques such as porcelain vases, scrolls and books, underside bears a six character Kangxi mark in underglaze blue.

From a Private North Carolina Collection

The original porcelain set was made for the Rt. Reverend William Talbot (1658-1730) while he was Bishop of Oxford, and bears his coat of arms.

Good estate condition, light surface wear.
