Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The first box, circa 1890s, has two MF manufacturer's marks and appears to have been totally refinished with replaced brass hardware (it's just as likely, however, that a movement was refurbished and placed in a modern box); the interior has a six-tune list placed under the lid, however the number of tunes is not guaranteed; a full compliment of 32 teeth is present, the brass bed plate is numbered 19901; patent dates run through 1887; overall dimensions are 4-3/4 x 13-7/8 x 7 in., lacking key to lid; the second music box appears to be a 20th century product throughout; it has a ratchet-wound movement, the brass bedplate supports a single comb of 57 teeth and has what appears to be serial number 57 72, playable, but the number of tunes on the cylinder is unknown. A tune list was originally on the lid's underside, however it is no longer present; overall dimensions are 5 x 13-1/2 x 7 in.
