Alvah Hamilton (NC, 1888-1960), Yellowlegs

Atlantic, North Carolina, circa 1910, carved and painted wood, iron bill and stake.

Length 10 in.

Appears to have been made from remnants of architectural wood. Alvah Hamilton learned the intricate skills of a waterman at an early age. He attended the University of North Carolina and Wake Forest Law School but continued to hunt Core Sound throughout his career. He was a partner in the Nine Island Marsh Club located on the eastern side of Harkers Island.
