Min Wae Aung, born in 1960 in Danubyu, Myanmar, is a Burmese artist best known for his paintings of monks and nuns. He studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon and trained under notable artists like U Goon and U Mya Aye. Early in his career, he focused on traditional landscapes and portraits, but a trip to the United States in 1993 influenced a shift toward a more contemporary style. His signature works now depict Buddhist monks and nuns, usually shown from behind, set against clean, minimal backgrounds. These works reflect his interest in Buddhism and daily life in Myanmar.

Min Wae Aung has exhibited internationally, with shows in cities such as London, New York, Hong Kong, and Paris. His paintings are part of collections at institutions including the Singapore Art Museum and the National Museum in Yangon. He also runs the New Treasure Art Gallery in Yangon, where he promotes local artists and the contemporary Burmese art scene. Through his work, he continues to highlight the role of spirituality and tradition in Myanmar’s culture.
