A Small Persian Illuminated Manuscript Page with a Painting of a Dervish

Safavid, 17th or 18th century, a central painting in gouache of a dervish with very detailed yet soft features laid down on an album page with dark indigo floral ground and framed by a vibrant thick illuminated border of cobalt blue intricately painted in gold.

Frame dimensions 8 5/8 x 5 7/8 in., Sight size 7 3/4 x 5 in.

Purchased in 1955 in Tehran.

Currently not framed; restoration and repainting; wear with loss to paper and painting; scattered discoloration and staining.
