Gelatin silver print, 1939, printed archivally by Marion Post Wolcott in 1978, pencil signed lower right and to matting, verso with additional signature, date, and further inscription, unframed.

Full inscription reads: "Mr. R.B. Whitley visiting his general store. He is president of the bank and practically owns and runs the town. He is also a big land owner, owning the Whitley Davis Farm and cotton gin in Clayton, NC. He said he cut down the first trees and pulled the stumps out of the main street and was the first man in the town of Wendell, Wake County, North Carolina."
